Welcome to your Spring Break trip....

...well, not really a trip.  But people do come from all over the world to visit New York City's attractions.  And since we have ten days of (hopefully) beautiful Spring weather coming up, and a nice long period without classes, I thought that I'd like my students to do something that would take them out to explore the culture and variety of this wonderful city.  Hopefully you'll all take at least one "trip" around the five boroughs this break.  You are all required to make at least one blog comment on the trips that will be described here.  Further posts will give some more information about the places we'll be visiting.  For more information about how this will work as an assignment, read on...

Here's how it works:

E6 students (juniors) are studying the literature of New York City this semester, and reading part of a A Tree Grows in Brooklyn over the break.  Your goal is to learn something about the New York of Francie Nolan (early 1900s), and of E.B. White (1940s).  You are encouraged to go on all trips, but the ones specially of interest to you will be in blue.

E4 Students (sophomores) have just finished reading Night, and are about to start Their Eyes Were Watching God.  Our theme this semester is world literature, with a special focus on social justice.  You are encouraged to explore all corners of New York, but you are especially encouraged to look at the effects of injustice and prejudice on various New York communities.  Trips of special interest to you will be in green.

E2 students (freshmen) have just finished reading Romeo and Juliet.  We are about to start reading groups, based around various novels.  Your goal at the moment is to expand your experience both reading and writing in various genres.  In a way, all of the tours are relevant to you, because you should use them to discover a topic you would like to read about in your reading circles.  If there is something I think is of special interest to you, it will be in purple.
